Covid-19 Response (Updated 8/2021)

As you are aware, we have been dealing with Covid19 on campus. Based on previous results on campus and general numbers in our area, our goal was to begin this school year as normal as possible with masks being optional. Last year, we saw very little spread from student to student. However, we have recently seen a change on campus with transmission between students, especially in the Lower School, which has led us to rethink our mask-optional policy. We recognize that some Covid procedures and protocols create polarizing discussions, however, our goal is to keep our students, faculty, and families as safe as possible with the information that we have.

Beginning this Monday, August 16, we are asking that all PreK-6th grade students, PreK-6th grade faculty, and Lower School visitors wear masks during the school day while they are inside the building. Teachers will be giving their students frequent breaks outside or in large spaces in which the students can take their mask off. We want parents to still have the experience of being able to come into the school, so will allow visitors into the buildings but we ask that you limit these if possible.

We will be spreading out during Lower School lunch so students can continue eating with their peers in a cafeteria setting.

We will continue with Lower School group assemblies such as chapel but students will be masked during this time and seated within their class unit unless we are able to go outside. Students will not be required to wear their masks while outside or during PE.

We will continue to have a 10 day quarantine for positive-tested students and those that are found to be in close contact. Typically in Lower School this will involve the entire classroom in which the positive case was reported. We will provide virtual instruction for the whole class for K-6 if this happens (Stepping Stones teachers will send activities home). If a single student needs to be quarantined because of a close contact with a family member, we will not provide virtual instruction but the teacher will work with this child closely to help keep them caught up with the other children in class.

Because of the availability of a vaccine for students 12 and over, we will continue our mask-optional policy in the Upper School. Any student testing positive for Covid-19 will quarantine for 10 days. Any student who is not vaccinated and is found to be in close contact will be asked to quarantine for 10 days. Vaccinated students and students who have had Covid in the last 90 days who are found to be in close contact will be notified but will not be asked to quarantine for 10 days.

We will limit upper school students from interacting with lower school students

These procedures will last through September 3rd at which point we will look at two variables to decide how to move forward:  1)the trend of Nashville Covid numbers and 2) the number of current cases on campus.

Thank you for your trust in Ezell-Harding Christian School. EHCS is a special place in which the lives of children are being changed through the partnership between the school and our parents. Thank you for the productive conversations and feedback that you have given this year. Although this is a difficult time, our faith in God allows us to have hope and peace. Psalm 27:13-14: "I remain confident of this: I will see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living. Wait for the LORD; be strong and take heart and wait for the LORD."
